The Pinnacle Learning Trust Board is currently determining proposed admission arrangements for The Hathershaw College for admission in September 2025.
The School Admissions Code requires us to consult on our academy admission arrangements where there have been any proposed changes or where there has been no consultation for seven years.
The Hathershaw College admissions policy has been amended to reflect that priority for admission will be given to children who attend a primary school within our Trust (Pinnacle Learning Trust) or within (or previously within) West Oldham Trust on an equal basis in order to simplify the criteria.
We are also reordering the criteria so that admission for children who already have a sibling at the academy at the time of application are prioritised over those who attend a partner Pinnacle Learning Trust or West Oldham Trust primary school.
In addition to the above, we have included a criterion for children of members of staff who have been employed at the school for a minimum of two years at the time of application and further clarity has been provided around the definition of a Home Address.
The proposed over subscription criteria are detailed below.
Criterion 1: Children who are looked after (LAC) by a Local Authority within the meaning of Section 22(1) of the Children Act 1989 at the time of their application, and all ‘previously looked after’ children (PLAC) including those who appear to the Admissions Authority to have been in state care outside England (IApLAC) and ceased to be in state care having been adopted, will be given the highest priority for admission. Evidence of the previously looked after status and/or the adoption will be requested.
Criterion 2: Children applying from one of our partner primary schools in The Pinnacle Learning Trust or from primary schools who are (or were previously) members of West Oldham Trust and who have a sibling attending The Hathershaw College at the time of application.
Criterion 3: Children with a sibling attending The Hathershaw College at the time of application.
Criterion 4: Children applying from one of our partner primary schools in The Pinnacle Learning Trust or from primary schools who are (or were previously) members of West Oldham Trust who don’t have a sibling attending The Hathershaw College at the time of application.
Criterion 5: Children of staff employed at The Hathershaw College who permanently reside with that member of staff. That member of staff must have been employed for a minimum of two years at the time of application or have been recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skills shortage.
Criterion 6: Children living in closest geographical proximity to the school, with those families living next nearest to the school being admitted first.
Tie-breaker
In the event of oversubscription in any category above priority will be determined by a straight-line distance measurement of the child’s home to The Hathershaw College based on postcodes. Apartments in the same block will be treated equally.
The Pinnacle Learning Trust Board has agreed to the draft criteria, subject to formal consultation.
The period of formal consultation opens on Monday 30th October 2023 and ends on Monday 11th December 2023. After this period, the Trust Board will consider any consultation responses and determine the final admission arrangements which will then be published on the academy website by 28th February 2024.
The Trust Board would welcome responses to the proposed policies from local parents, local community members, relevant bodies and admission authorities.
