Virtual Open Evening Now Live!

Unfortunately, due to current COVID-19 restrictions, we are unable to welcome you in for our usual Open Evening this year. We have instead, put together a short video tour of our building and a prospectus which provides a small taste of what makes Hathershaw so amazing! Please check back soon for some meet and greet videos with the Principal and other key staff.

Letter from the Principal

Dear Parent/Carer,

I wanted the opportunity to introduce myself and ask you to take a few moments to look through our prospectus.  Hathershaw is already a good school.  OFSTED have told us and parents constantly praise us for our high quality teaching and caring ethos.  Attending Hathershaw is like being part of a family.  The moment children come to the school, a non-teaching Year Manager will take responsibility for their welfare, alongside a form tutor and one of the most committed teams of staff I have had the pleasure to work with.  The changes we have made to the curriculum, our examination results and the high level of care we provide mean that we are moving towards being considered ‘outstanding’.  This desire to be the best we can alongside doing the right thing for children is what continues to drive us.

Whilst we don’t have the new building that some schools have, children who attend Hathershaw have better life chances because of the progress they make with us.  As I know you will be aware, the buildings don’t make a school, it is what goes on inside them that is important.  That said, I am working hard behind the scenes to try to access some of the central Government money that has been promised to rebuild schools who haven’t yet benefited from previous schemes.  If your child joins Hathershaw, there is a greater likelihood than ever that we might have a new building or significant improvements to existing ones before they leave.

At this time of year, we would usually have an Open Evening so that you could come and have a look at what we have to offer.  As a result of the current situation, this isn’t possible, but as an alternative, you can have a virtual tour of the school.  You will be able to access this through our school website www.hathershaw.org.uk from Tuesday 29th of September.

Such is the reputation of the school, I receive more applications than we have places, so if you want your child to come to us in September 2021, remember to get your application in on time and by 31st October at the latest.

I look forward to the opportunity to welcome your child to the school and if you have any questions, please email mail@hathershaw.org.uk.

Yours sincerely

Mark Giles
