Author Sufiya Ahmed inspires students at Hathershaw
On Monday 10th March, we had the privilege of welcoming acclaimed author Sufiya Ahmed to Hathershaw as part of our World Book Day celebrations. The visit was a fantastic opportunity for pupils to engage with literature, history, and creativity in an exciting and interactive way.
The day began with a captivating talk for Year 7, focusing on the theme of spies and suffragettes. Pupils found the session exciting and engaging and some even had the chance to dress up as spies and suffragettes. They enthusiastically chanted ‘Votes for Women!’ – bringing history to life right before their eyes.
Following this, Year 8 students had their turn to immerse themselves in the world of spies and suffragettes. They were equally engaged and eagerly interacting with the author.
After the insightful talks, 30 Year 7 students took part in a creative writing workshop. Guided by Sufiya Ahmed, they worked on crafting their own pieces of writing. The workshop not only honed their writing skills but also built their confidence in expressing their ideas.
The inspiring day concluded with an informal session in the school library, where pupils had the chance to meet Sufiya and talk about books, writing, and ask questions about her writing journey.
Overall, the visit was a resounding success, leaving pupils and staff alike inspired and motivated. Hathershaw School extends its gratitude to Sufiya Ahmed for making World Book Day a truly memorable and educational experience.
