Year 7 Catch-up Premium

What is the Catch-up Premium?

The Government has made a commitment to provide additional funding to schools for each year 7 pupil who did not achieve at least level 4 in the Key Stage 2 national curriculum tests in reading and/or mathematics. The purpose of this funding is to enable schools to deliver additional support, such as individual tuition or intensive support in small groups, for those pupils that most need it.

The funding to date provided to deliver additional support is as follows;

Year

Funding

Number of Students

2012-14 £24,500 49
2013-15 £27,500 55
2014-16 £16,500 33

How we use the Catch-up Premium?

  • All students who achieved below a level 4 in Key Stage 2 national curriculum tests in reading and/or mathematics will undertake a full week of intervention in the Autumn term. This will be delivered by our external partner GradeBuster to small groups of students to accelerate progress.
  • Additional Teachers and specialist Teaching Assistants have been appointed to English the Maths which allows for small group work and/or ‘one to one’ tuition. These sessions are tailored to meet student’s individual needs and accelerate their progress.
  • As part of our commitment to improving literacy, the College has continued to invest in the library with new books and other resources. The Librarian and other staff work to improve reading for catch-up premium students through the Accelerated Reader Programme.
  • To sustain the impact, small group work and/or ‘one to one’ tuition to secure level 4 attainment continues for targeted students in the cohort into Year 8.

Two Year Catch-up Programme Impacts

  • 80% of students at the end of the programme are above Level 4 in English
  • 73% of students at the end of the programme are above Level 4 in Maths
